Welcome!
Hi to everyone! This is Ms Barbara, director of the Smoot Theatre Children’s Chorus, or as we sometimes call it — STCC. Welcome to all of you — our current STCC singers and our special guests from this year’s Spring Sing. I’m so looking forward to hearing your wonderful voices in our song for our first virtual choir. The song is called This Pretty Planet and it was written by Tom Chapin, who has performed it on the stage of the Smoot Theatre 2 times - once with the Wood County Elementary Honor Choir and once with STCC. Not only is it a beautiful tune which can be sung as a round, creating harmony, but it is a reminder to all of us about how important it is to treat our planet well so that it will be here for generations to come.
Now, for some instructions: listen carefully to the vocal example and sing along, practicing many times so you are familiar with the tune and words.

Guidelines for recording your video
- Record your video in front of a colorful wall inside, or pretty natural background outside. Don't record in front of a messy bed, bathroom sink, a distracting background or a wall covered with photos or artwork.
- Dress nice, but casual and look groomed. Don’t wrap yourself in a blanket or record yourself with bed head.
- Warm up before first. Getting your voice ready to sing is an important part of sounding good in your video.
- Start recording at least five seconds before you start singing. Don’t stop recording the second you cut off – give another five seconds of silence with a smile.
- Double check the video recording by playing it back before submitting it. Make sure there were no odd sounds picked up, like barking dogs or loud cars. Make sure we can see your face clearly and hear your lovely singing voice. The deadline for submission is Sept. 5 at noon.
Instructions for Singing
You will need two devices to make your video: one to play the piano track through your ear buds, and a second device, usually a phone, to record the video of you singing. In your finished video we should only hear you singing, not the piano track playing in the background. We will add the piano back in after we receive everyone's videos. Use the button above the music to submit your video. The deadline for submission is Sept. 5 at noon.
Play the audio track below that matches your part in the choir. After singing through the song once, there is a five-second break before the final ending, Continue recording through this pause while sitting still and smiling.
